Oasis FTB Server Rules

Hey guys, welcome to the Oasis FTB forums! Here's our specific FTB rules. A lot of them apply to all of our servers, but there are a lot of new specific ones, so it's definitely worth reading this through thoroughly. These are a WIP and will be changing over time. Not every specific rule is posted on here and it is up to the discretion of the staff as to whether or not a rule has been violated.

Section I. Griefing

a. Griefing Defined
Griefing is defined as the act of destroying or modifying blocks that another player has placed without their consent. It also encompasses building on another person's property, or within 5 blocks of it, without their consent. Furthermore, griefing also includes ruining other people's playing experience, such as causing mass server lag. See Section IV, subsection C for more details. Destroying or modifying public property, or not fully removing all log blocks from a tree you have cut down are also examples of griefing. Don't purposefully grief the landscape and ruin biomes. Feed the Beast comes with a lot of mods that we don't want to restrict. These include items which can be used to ruin landscapes. Please refrain from doing this and keep destruction to a minimum.

b. Consequences for Griefing
If you are caught griefing, or evidence has been submitted proving you have griefed, you may be banned for a period of time as determined by the staff. If your griefing is on a larger scale, it is likely that you may receive a permanent ban. If it is on a smaller scale, your ban time can last anywhere from a few hours up to one week.

c. Reporting Griefing
There are three ways in which you can report griefing:
1. By alerting all staff members who are logged in-game with /helpop
2. By making a post or private message to the staff on the Oasis FTB forums.
3. By making a post on the forums, preferably with a video or screenshot(s). If you'd like your case to have action be taken against it more quickly, please provide evidence of the grief, such as a screenshot.

d. Griefing Replacements
If something of yours has been griefed, you are entitled to have a staff member replace the exact number of blocks that you lost. The staff member may, but is not required to, assist you in rebuilding.

e. Grief Removal
Should your house/creation be griefed, you are to report it to staff within 10 days. Should staff find a house/creation that has been griefed, and not reported, they may remove it with no refund of items. This is to cut down on the houses built by guest who only visit once, leaving half built or abandoned house behind.

Section II. Stealing

a. Container Stealing
You may not steal items from another player's containers, these include things like machinery, pipes and chests. If you are caught doing this, you may be instantly banned, either permanently or temporarily. Using any exploits or bugs to get into locked or private containers will result in an instant ban.

b. Death Stealing
If another player dies, they drop their items on the floor upon death. You will know a player has died if you see a tombstone. If you find an instance such as this, you are NOT allowed to take the items in the tombstone. You must leave the items where they were, since it is probable that the player has recently died, and is searching for their items.

c. Replacing Lost / Stolen Items
Replacing lost or stolen items is a tricky thing, seeing as there is no way to prove the validity or exact amount of missing items. A staff member is not required to replace any lost or stolen chest items. If you die from falling in lava, zombies, drowning etc. your items will not be returned. This is, after all, a survival server, so therefore you have to survive. Replacing lost or stolen items can only be done by a staff member.

Section III. Murder/Violence

a. PVP
Some items in FTB can damage players. Do not engage or try to damage players using these tools or exploits without their expressed consent. If PvP is enabled in the area (For example, an arena), you are not to teleport away or combat log. If you entered this PvP area by mistake, simply leave the moment you see that PvP is enabled.

b. Other Murder
Even if PVP is off, there are other ways to kill players. These include things such as spawning lava on them and pushing them off of a cliff. These actions are strictly prohibited. Please note that if you attack something that is owned by someone else, for example: a wolf, and you are killed, that is your fault and it does not count as murder.

c. Traps
Traps are allowed, but MUST be clearly marked with a sign that they will result in death. If they are not, you will be punished. If you die from a marked trap, it is your fault and you will not receive a refund for your lost items.

Section IV. Building Rules

a. Pillars
If you build a small, thin pillar in order to reach a high area, you are required to remove it when you are done using it. Tall thin pillars or walkways are not allowed. It is up to the discretion of the staff member if a tower falls within this category. These pillars look very ugly and are an eyesore to the whole server.

b. Property Restrictions
A player's property is defined as the area enclosed by what they have built in one specific plot of land, plus 5 extra blocks in any direction. Example: if a player builds a house that is 10x10, they are entitled to a 15x15 area in which their house is the exact center. Any issues concerning property ownership or building rights is within the discretion of the staff.

c. Lag Generating Structures
Due to the nature of Feed the Beast many structures and farms may cause lag. Please keep these structures to a minimum and try to reduce any lag they may produce In the event a build is deemed to generate excessive amounts of lag it must either be dismantled or modified in a way to bring lag generation down to an acceptable level as determined by staff.

d. Diamond Blocks
Diamond Blocks are allowed on the server in moderation. You are allowed to use diamond blocks as a building material; however, be warned that they are a great potential that they will be griefed. Also note, you only use a minimal amount in your building as advised by the staff.

e. Generating/Duplication Machines
As of update beta 1.7+, Pistons were added that could be utilized to make multiples of one material or generate new materials. These are not permitted on this server and will result in a ban. Along with this, no other form of duplicating items will be tolerated whatsoever. Any breach of these rules can result in a permanent ban. Smoothstone generators are the only type of block generator that the staff will allow, however it is advised that you keep them relatively small.

f. Property Claiming
If you want to claim an area of open land for you or your town, you must first make sure that the area that you want to claim is not inhabited by anyone. You must also make a clear defined border, preferably walls, and if it's owned by staff, you may also put a region. If something is built inside the borders of the claimed area, you must ask a staff to move it from the area. If you take it upon yourself to remove it, it will be considered griefing.

g. Town Rules
Rules established within a township or community of players are binding within the designated space of the township or community. For example if there is a town that wishes to have plots be a lesser or greater distance or a spleef arena that allows killing you are agreeing to these rules by entering the space. The Rule variations should be posted in a readily visible area to avoid confusion. You are allowed to sell off plots of land within an established town or community so long as there is nothing built on the land using spawned items. Town rule override server rules so long as at least 2 different staff member agree with said rules. If the majority of staff have any problems with the server rules being broken in the town, they can give warnings and punishments at their discretion.

Section V. Donator/Veteran Rules

a. Donator Commands
At some point donators will have access to commands and possibly kits. You are not allowed to give away any items you may get via spawning. All donator commands should be used maturely and for personal reasons.

c. Donator Privileges
Just because you have donated does not mean you have the ability to break rules without penalty. If you are found breaking a rule you will be punished to the same extent as any other regularly playing member. The owners do not issue refunds to donators who get banned from Oasis SMP.

d. Prefixes
For obvious reasons there are limitations to the prefixes that you are allowed to have as a donator. For example, you may not have anything that inappropriate (remember this is a PG 13 server) and you may not have anything implying ownership or staff membership. Donators are allowed to use any colour except owner red as this is reserved for the owners (and founders) of the server. Donators may only change their colours or prefix once a month; or only the colours, or only the prefix, or both only once each month.

e. Perks and Donation Totals
While there is no limit that you can donate to the server or in someone else's name, there are limitations to the perks that the recipients may get. The limitations are everything until $30. This means that they are allowed to have every perk up to a $30 donator. This means that they are not allowed /i or creative mode. Obviously, as with most things, we are allowed to make exceptions to this rule. All exceptions, however, must be cleared with the staff. Let it be known that donating money for someone else will not increase the total that you have donated for yourself, only their total.

Section VI. Selling Items

Any player may sell items at any price they wish, as long as the buyer agrees to the price, and the items are not spawned with /item or /kit. The items must be gathered legitimately, although there are some exceptions (see Section VI). A set price exists for some rare/unobtainable items, and players may buy these items from staff if you try to sell them at a higher price.

Section VII. Banned Items / Storing Items

a. List of banned items.
As the server is currently available to only donators and ranks higher than Trusted+, we trust you to use all items maturely and not to use them to exploit Feed the Beast mechanics or harm other players. Items which constantly cause problems may end up banned.

Section VIII. Appealing a Ban

Any player who is banned for any reason may appeal their ban on the Oasis FTB Forums at https://oasis-ftb.forumotion.com/f13-ban-appeals. You MUST have the reason you were banned, and a convincing argument as to why you deserve to be pardoned. It will help your case to know the particular staff member who banned you.

a. Ban Evading
At no point in time are you allowed to come on the server in a different account, if you do we will easily know, and you will be punished to further extent. This will most likely result in an IP ban.

b. Blaming Others
If you have performed a specific action that is seen as bannable offense on Oasis FTB, then keep in mind, you will get caught. Blaming someone else will not change the situation. You are responsible for your account and what happens on it. "My friend did it!" is not a valid excuse.

Section IX. Proper Conduct/Censorship

a. Other Servers
If you decide to start your own server, or become infatuated with another minecraft server, there's nothing we can do to stop you. However, we do ask that you not promote outside servers while in-game on Oasis FTB. Doing so may result in one warning, then continued advertising of another server may result in a permanent ban.
We only ask that you give our server the same level of respect that the founders of Oasis gave every other server upon its creation.

b. Chat Etiquette
Oasis is home to a wide range of ages, so we ask that you try to keep chat suitable and appropriate for all players. Swearing and some MINOR sexually explicit content are allowed on Oasis, but you should keep in mind that it is only allowed at an acceptable (PG-13) level. If someone tells you that they feel uncomfortable with the level of swearing or sexual content, you are to stop immediately. Excessive swearing or other explicit content/language is punishable by a kick or even a ban. Socially unacceptable terms such as 'getting raped' are also not allowed on Oasis. Oasis prides itself on the inclusion of everyone and we ask that you try not to make anyone feel uncomfortable or discluded. Please also note that you must use the English language when talking in general chat. Feel free to use other languages in private messages, but if you're going to talk to the server as a whole, make sure they all can understand what you're saying.

c. Respect
We ask that you exhibit a level of respect that would be expected from you in person. This includes respecting other players as well as Staff members. Please respect the authority of the staff members because they generally know what they're talking about. Also, the use of racial slurs or other extremely offensive language/behavior is strictly prohibited.

d. Spamming
Spam is defined as obnoxious chat behavior and is prohibited. Examples of spam include using all capital letters in mulitple sentences, random letters, macro use in public chat without permission, various forms of begging, the usage of a hacked client to spam or any other form of disrupting chat solely for being a nuisance.

e. Changing Name / Nicknames
If you wish to change your name, you must request it to a staff member that is online. Nickname changes are only for serious circumstances, do not abuse the nicknames or they will be taken away.

Section X. Client-Side Modifications

This section of the server rules states which modifications are allowed and are banned. Client-Side Modifications are generally not allowed and need to be approved by an Admin/Owner before being used. Here is a short list of Modifications that are strictly banned and some that are Admin approved.

a. Banned Modifications
-Xray (this includes xray texturepacks)
-FullBright.

Any other modifications that give you an unfair edge over other players are also not allowed. Please note that using these can result in a kick, temp-ban, permanent-ban, and/or IP ban.

b. Allowed Modifications
-Optifine
-Better Chat (Note: abusing the hot-key feature is considered spam, and will be punishable like such)

c. Other Modifications
Modifications other than the ones listed above are not allowed unless you have the permission of a staff member. If you are unsure of the legality of a mod, please ask a staff member.

Section XI. Rule Loopholes

a. Using a Loophole for Personal Gain
If you or any other player on the server is found using a loophole in the rules to get an
advantage over any other player, you will be punished accordingly. This covers any action deemed unlawful by the staff.

b. Finding and Reporting Loopholes
If you or any other player have found someone using a rule loophole, please report it to the staff, preferably, via the forums or in-game chat.

c. Constituted Rules and Regulations
The staff have the power to punish players for rules not found in this document. However, they must be able to present evidence of a wrong-doing and a good reason to why the player deserved to be punished. If no sufficient reason and/or evidence is given, the punishment may be lifted, if determined by staff.

Section XII. Alternate Accounts
a. Alternate Accounts
If you wish to have an alternate account, it will follow the same rules as another person as pertaining to the server rules. Any instances of another player will be counted for this account.

b. Alternate Staff Accounts
If a member of staff wishes to have an alternate account with staff powers on it, they must post a thread about it on the staff forums and have it approved by the staff before having staff powers added to it.

c. Transferral of Power
As mentioned above, once the thread is approved by another moderator or administrator, they may add powers to the alternate account. If it is a staff member wishing to transfer power, meaning leave the other account as a non-staff account, a public thread must be made after the staff thread has been approved. If it is a non-staff member, they may only make a public thread that has to be approved by a moderator or an administrator.

XIII. Feed the Beast Mod & Etiquette

a. /TP and /TPA
These commands should only be used for the purpose of transportation. Players should be aware what they're teleporting to, and be forewarned about being brought into a dangerous place. Do you spam these commands and understand when players do not want to teleport or be teleported to.

b. Morph

Feed the Beast has a morph mod which allows players to become mosts mobs they've killed. Please use this wisely and do not use this to harm or spite players. Where applicable, try to make it clear you are a mob in order to avoid complications and misunderstandings.

a. Harmful and Exploitable Items

On Oasis Feed the Beast we do not want to restrict what players can craft, use and build. This means that some items will be available which can be used to harm players, cause griefs or produce exploits, like duplication ones. Do not abuse any of these items and please report any exploits to staff. Using exploits or causing distress with any Feed the Beat item or contraption will result in a firm punishment.

Section XIV. Staff Rules

Intro:
Your first priority as a staff member MUST be to help out other players and catch griefers before you build for yourself. If there are other players who require legitimate assistance, you MUST help them out, even if it means interrupting construction on one of your projects.

a. Kicking/Banning
Here is the procedure for kicking/banning a player who has broken a rule.

-You may first give the player a warning in chat, then if no response comes or if the illegal act continues, you may kick the player with a warning message upon their return.
-If the rule breaking continues, you may ban the player with the message “You can appeal on the Oasis SMP forums" or something of the likes.
-Staff may issue either a temporary ban, a permanent ban, or an IP ban, depending on the severity of the situation.
-You must then post a Convicted Players thread on the forums with their name and information included and lock it.

On a separate note: /kick and /ban are ONLY to be used for legitimate, moderating purposes. This includes Teamspeak.

b. Worldedit/Voxelsniper
Worldedit has the power to completely wreck the server. If used incorrectly, these plugins can cause massive lag and even cause the server to crash and rollback up to 10 or so hours. You MUST be fully versed in how to use these plugins. You can find wikis and instructions on how to use these plugins online. If you mess up, you may have your Worldedit/voxel permissions revoked.

c. /item and Selling Items
If you (a staff member) choose to open your own shop, and if you choose to sell items that the AdminShop sells, you are required to make those chests BUY-ONLY and the shopsign needs to have the same QUANTITY and PRICE as the appropriate sign in the AdminShop. Period. This is only so that players cannot eco-abuse you. Second of all, if you own a shop and you choose to sell spawned items, please mark-up the price so that players will be less likely to purchase said items. Remember - ONLY staff members may sell spawned items to other players. In addition, please put in glass blocks or other random junk in your ChestShops so that players have a harder time trying to bankrupt you or do some other sort of eco-abuse. Finally, use some common sense when setting up a shop. Do not price rare items with dirt-cheap prices. For example, if the value of one diamond is 100 coins, do not sell a diamond chestplate (which requires 8 diamonds to craft) for equal or lesser value than 100 coins.

d. Other Commands
/time, /send, /tp, /powertool - If you are given access to these commands, they are only to be used for legitimate purposes only, such as cleaning up griefs, catching griefers, assisting players, etc. In general, its best to assume that all commands are to be used for legitimate purposes only, no trolling.

e. Minechat
It is strongly advised that staff do not use MineChat unless it is to take care of staff-related items. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Informing other staff about being afk
- Performing quick plugin command work (I.E player promotions)
- Unbanning a player

f. Demotion
Demotion will occur to a staff member if one of the following things happens:

-Break ANY of the rules, especially the ones made for staff
-Consistent inactivity of three weeks or more at a time (which means you don't have to be on everyday to not get demoted, just log on and play for a bit every week, and try your best to do your job during this time)

If you're going to be inactive, and are afraid of losing your staff rank, please retire or inform the staff on the forums. Tell us how long you think you'll be gone for, and you may not get demoted, depending on the circumstances. In the case of breakage of your computer, or no internet, either go to your friends house or your school and make a post in the staff section about it, and it will be discussed among admins what to do with you. Using MineChat to inform staff of your inactivity in-game is allowed.

If staff do not know why you are inactive, you can be demoted for inactivity. If staff thinks you are inactive, one of the staff members will contact you via the forums/skype/facebook/etc and ask why you were inactive.

g. Crimes Unspecified by Rules
In the event a player is found to have committed an action deemed to be worthy of punishment but is not a technical violation of the server rules, a punishment may be issued for this offense. See section a. kicking/banning for further info. In addition to the punishment, staff will be required to amend the rules within a reasonable amount of time to reflect this previously unknown illegal action.

In the event staff discover a new player right as a result of consensus or the resolution of player disputes the server rules must be amended within a reasonable amount of time to reflect this discovery to ensure equality amongst the population.

Section XV. Subject to Change and Discretionary Clause

Please be aware that these rules are subject to change at any time, and it is the responsibility of you, the player, to review the rules and be aware of any changes. You will be held accountable for your actions, and any rule breaking can and will be met with punishment. All of the above rules are under the discretion of the Oasis staff. This also means an administrator can enforce a new rule at any given time whether in game or on this official list. If at any time you feel a staff member has overstepped their bounds, check with a different staff member for a second opinion. It will be documented in the server logs and may be reviewed upon if needed.

We reserve the right to interpret the rules as we see fit!
